Let’s get personal…
By now, you’ve hopefully read all about Mt. Olympus Performance Group, what we stand for, and why we’re so committed to serving women executives. But beyond the statistics and credentials, it’s also important that we get to know each other.
My name is Jessica Casucci and I’m the founder & CEO of Mt. Olympus Performance Group, but you can call me many things: sister, friend, daughter, partner, coach, survivor, executive, but perhaps most important to you, seasoned leader and corporate executive.
Let’s go back to the beginning…
I was raised in The Bronx by a single mom who dropped out of high school and immigrant great-grandparents. I had an absent biological father who was in jail or on drugs most of my life.
Yet somehow, someway, I ended up working to get a full ride to college and then hustled my way working nights through law school. When I coach women and girls, they always ask me, what drove you? How did you fight through all of that and climb the corporate and business world’s ladders?
The answer is always the same, I thought I had made it. I climbed, but I did it in the most unhealthy way. After many, many years of working 70 plus hour weeks, living on crap food, and living on too much caffeine and nicotine, I hit my breaking point. I was on track to make partner (and I did make it), but I was physically and emotionally a wreck. I was almost 80 pounds overweight, suffered from insomnia and barely saw my friends or family. I had digestive issues, was cranky (to put it mildly) and was becoming a person I didn’t recognize.
So I took a step back and said, there has to be another way…
I worked from the outside in, losing weight, breaking out of an unhealthy relationship and then started my yoga and meditation practice. And this wasn’t about me going off the “woo woo” deep end and having some sort of “eat pray love” mid life crisis. It was about scientifically studying how the body stores trauma and how learned patterns affect both physical and mental health for years to come.
So I studied various embodiment and trauma sensitive movement practices. I learned about integrative nutrition, and how work performance improves when executives maintain healthy friendships (inside and outside of work), spiritual practices (whoever you pray to and believe), exercise (yes you can’t just sit at your desk, you have to move too), as well as food (and yes it matters what you eat).
As I did this work for myself, I noticed as I was healing physically and mentally, I started to become even more successful. I started speaking at 2k -plus person conferences. I was appointed to the board of two charities. I was nominated and accepted into a prestigious fellowship for the top 5% of female leaders in corporate America. I built and ran not one, BUT TWO, successful $20m+ practices for our firm. And I became a certified yoga instructor and integrative health coach to balance it all out.
I thought, if this framework helped me so much, I can’t wait to share it with my teams. For over ten years I was a coach and then became the ” People” leader for my former firm’s large practice area, where I coached team members through all aspects of career progression from intern to partner, both one on one and in groups. I also consulted with clients on staffing mix and shared our success stories.
After showing the stats on how wellbeing enhances productivity and the bottom line, I was able to create wellness programs for my teams, both locally and across the country. And people started noticing changes in performance and retention right away. Not to mention, my former experience as a licensed financial advisor, helped women do more with what they were earning through their promotions and raises.
But I wanted more… and frankly, I wanted to serve more women outside of my former firm.
Something about old-school corporate culture and the old paradigms of success didn’t sit well with me. And that’s how Mt. Olympus was formed. I wanted to create a space where women could be coached on success, taking into account everything that I had learned in finance, wellness and fitness. Our framework, which utilizes mind-body techniques, such as science-based meditation, breathwork and visualization, communication skills, and financial planning, has been proven successful time and time again.
